Ranchi is the capital of the Indian province of Jharkhand, and is the third most crowded city of the state. Ranchi was the focal point of the Jharkhand movement,which required a different state for the innate districts of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal and the eastern region of what is available day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was shaped on 15 November 2000 via cutting out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas. 

The name Ranchi is gotten from the past name of the Oraon town at a similar site, Archi."Archi" gets from the Oraon word for bamboo woods or fight. As per legend, after a quarrel with a soul, a rancher beat the soul with his bamboo fight. The soul yelled archi, archi, archi and vanished. Archi moved toward becoming Rachi, which progressed toward becoming Ranchi.One of the truly huge neighborhoods of Rachi is Doranda.Doranda lies between the Hinoo (Bhusur) and Harmoo Rivers, where the common station, treasury and church set up by the British Raj were obliterated by renegade powers amid the Sepoy Mutiny. 

Ranchi has been chosen as one of the hundred Indian urban areas to be created as a savvy city under PM Narendra Modi's leader Smart Cities Mission.Ranchi is notable for being the main residence of previous Indian cricket skipper MS Dhoni.
