About Ramappa Temple,Warangal :

Ramappa Temple otherwise called the Ramalingeswara sanctuary, is found 77 km from Warangal, the antiquated capital of the Kakatiya administration, 157 km from Hyderabad in the province of Telangana in southern India. It lies in a valley at Palampet town of Venkatapur Mandal, in recent Mulug Taluq of Jayashankar Bhupalpally locale, a little town long past its long stretches of brilliance in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. An engraving in the sanctuary dates it to the year 1213 AD and says it was worked by a General Recherla Rudra, amid the time of the Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva.

The sanctuary is a Shivalaya, where Lord Ramalingeswara is loved. It stands grandly on a 6 ft high star-formed stage. The corridor before the sanctum has various cut columns that have been situated to make an impact that joins light and space magnificently. The sanctuary is named after the stone worker Ramappa, who manufactured it, and is maybe the main sanctuary in India to be named after a specialist who constructed it.History says that it took 40 years to fabricate this sanctuary.

The primary structure is in a ruddy sandstone, however the segments round the outside have vast sections of dark basalt. These are cut as legendary creatures or female artists or artists, and are "the magnum opuses of Kakatiya craftsmanship, remarkable for their fragile cutting, sexy stances and extended bodies and heads".

Architecture of Ramappa temple :

The architecture of the Ramappa Temple is a marvellous example of Kakatiya, with the temple designed to be elevated above its surroundings on a high star-shaped platform. There are three entrances to the main sanctum of the temple, each of which is flanked by detailed statues and carvings. Built out of sandstone, these statues illustrate many things ranging from daintily Mandakinis to mythical animals. Three distinct sections, namely Antaral, Maha Mandap and Garbhagrih together constitute the Ramappa Temple.

The walls of the temple are adorned by carvings that are also found on the pillars and ceilings. Lotus motifs, elephants in different poses and images of Gods such as Narasimha and Ganesha embellish the many pillars that hold the ceiling of Ramappa temple in place. Prominent among these are the sculptures of Hindu mythology that cover the temple from its base all the way to its wall panels and ceiling. The roof of the temple is built with ultra light bricks, light enough to float on water. The statue of Shiva's celestial bull Nandi can be seen guarding the premises as well.
