The Jain temple or the Navagraha Jain temple or Navagraha Teertha is situated at Varuru near Hubli in Karnataka. It is one of the important temples for the Jain community.
This temple has a 19m tall monolithic(single stone) idol of the Shri 1008 Bhagavan Parshvanatha(23rd of 24 tirthankaras of Jainism) and the smaller statues of the other eight Jain teerthankaras.
The statue is the tallest statue of the Jain deity Parshavantha in India and weighs 185 tons. The statue stands on a 15 m high platform which in total is 33m.
Significance:
The construction of Navagraha teertha began in January 2005 and the carving(creation) of monolithic statues was completed in one year. The work was supported by Sri Dharmasena Bhattaraka Swamiji and volunteers.
It is believed that the Graha doshas of nine planets(sunsign) can be calmed down by worshipping in the nine Tirthankaras : Padmaprabhu (sun), Chandraprabhu(moon), Mallinatha(Mercury), Pushpadanta(Venus), Vasupujya(Mars), Mahavira(Jupiter), Munisuvrata (Saturn), Neminatha(Rahu) and Parshavanth(Kethu).
