Bhimshankar Jyotirlinga Temple is a major shrine in Bhimshankar, dedicated to lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 jyotirlingas temple located in Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra state. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple is an ancient shrine located in the Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra. The inner sanctum is believed to be centuries old and built in the traditional Nagara-style architecture. According to legend, Lord Shiva manifested here after defeating the demon Tripurasura, and the energy from this divine event is said to have formed the Bhima River. Over time, rulers from the Yadava dynasty and Maratha period supported and expanded the temple, giving it its present form.
Maha Shivaratri is the main festival celebrated here with thousands of devotees for night-long Abhishekam, Rudrabhishekam, special poojas and Shiva bhajans. Every Monday in Shravan is considered highly auspicious. Also, Kartik Poornima is Held during the full moon of Kartik month.
