The Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra usually follows a sequence from west to east that is from Yamunotri to Badrinath. This holy temple tour traditionally covers the four holy shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. This route is followed by most devotees who are planning for this yatra in 2026.
Before planning for the yatra, it is important to know the Char Dham Distance From Each Dham. It helps devotees to estimate the travel time, plan the number of days required to complete the yatra. The route generally follows the order Yamunotri - Gangotri - Kedarnath - Badrinath. The total distance from Yamunotri to Gangotri is 227 KM, Gangotri to Kedarnath base point is 239 KM and Kedarnath base point to Badrinath 210 KM is 676 KM. This distance is only by road and for 2 dhams, you need to trek uphill. Here the trek distance is not calculated.
The Yatra first moves from Haridwar to Barkot and Janki Chatti, which serves as the base point for Yamunotri Dham. From Janki Chatti, devotees need to complete a 5 to 6 KM trek to reach the yamunotri temple. After the darshan, the journey continues to Uttarkashi and proceeds to Gangotri Dham.
This route passes through scenic Himalayan roads, valleys and river views, making it one of the most beautiful routes. The distance from the Yamunotri to Gangotri is around 227 KM by road and around 6 KM for trekking.
After visiting Gangotri, the route continues towards Uttarkashi and Guptkashi as it passes through main halt points in Uttarakhand. From Guptkashi, devotees travel to Sonprayag and Gaurikund, which is the base point for Kedarnath Dham.
The approximate distance from Gangotri to Kedarnath base is 239 KM. Unlike the other temples, Kedarnath is not directly accessible by road. From Gaurikund, devotees must go through a trek up to around 16 KM to reach the temple. This trek can be completed on foot or through helicopter rides or other services like Pony. It is not included in the total Char Dham distance from each other as it is a trekking route. This is why Kedarnath is excluded from the total Char Dham distance.
After returning from Kedarnath to the base point, the yatra continues towards Rudraprayag, Joshimath and finally Badrinath Dham. This final stretch passes through some of the most beautiful Himalayan roads and important spiritual towns. Joshimath is the main halt before reaching Badrinath. The approximate road distance from the Kedarnath base to Badrinath is 210 KM.
