There are two convenient ways to begin the yatra from Mumbai is by first reaching Delhi, Haridwar or Dehradun either by flight or by train. Traveling by flight from Mumbai to Delhi or Dehradun is the best option as this is the fastest and comfortable way.
Flights to Dehradun usually take around 3 hours of travel time, while flights to Delhi take approximately 2 hours. From there, devotees can continue their journey to Haridwar by road, which is the starting point for the Char Dham route.
For travelers who prefer train travel, taking a train from Mumbai to Haridwar is a budget friendly and convenient way of travel with trains like BDTS HW Exp(19019), LTT HW AC Exp(12171) run in this route and will have around 25 hrs of travel time. This is only to reach up to Haridwar. You can start the Char Dham Yatra from Haridwar by bus or car. Buses go up to major points like Barkot, Uttarkashi, Sonprayag, and Badrinath, but Yamunotri requires a trek from Janki Chatti and Kedarnath requires a shuttle to Gaurikund followed by trekking. The same route applies for car travel too, with more comfort and flexibility.
Once you reach Haridwar, you can start the yatra in the route starting from Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and ending at Badrinath. This route is considered very auspicious and traditional. The journey starts with a drive from Haridwar to Barkot. From Barkot, you have to travel by road to Janki Chatti and halt your vehicle. From there, the trek starts to reach Yamunotri temple which is around 6 KM far.
Upon completing the darshan, trek down to Janki CHatti and return to Barkot for a night stay.
The next day continues towards Uttarkashi, from where devotees proceed to Gangotri temple by road. There is no trek required to reach Gangotri temple as the temple is directly accessible by road. After darshan, the return journey is usually made to Uttarkashi for night halt.
From Uttarkashi, the yatra continues to Guptkashi and you have to halt your vehicles there. From there, take a local shuttle up to Gaurikund which is the base point for the trek to Kedarnath. This trek will be about 18 KM far. After darshan, you can stay in Kedatnath or trek back to Gaurikund, return to Sonprayag and reach Badrinath.
Badrinath temple is directly accessible by road, making it the final part of the Char Dham yatra from Kedarnath.
