Madikeri Fort or Mercara Fort was built by Mudduraja in the 17th century which included a palace within the fort. Later it was rebuilt by Tipu Sultan with granite stones. From 1812 to 1814, Linga Rajendra II made some renovations to the fort. The specialty of this fort is it includes two stone statues of elephants and a church.
