Subramanya is a village in Kadaba Taluka in Dakshina Kannada. The Kukke Subramanya temple is located here. This village was originally named as "Kukke Pattana".
The village is surrounded by the Kumaradhara River. The Darpana teertha, a tributary of the Kumaradhara, flows just behind the temple. It is believed that Vasuki and other snakes took shelter under the god Subramanya in the caves of Subramanya. In this temple Subramanya is worshiped as a snake.
