Araku Valley is well known for its lush landscapes and coffee plantations are one of the best lush green landscapes here. The Araku coffee plantations stand out as the best example to sustainable agriculture. It was introduced during the British colonial era in the 1920s and has expanded significantly over the decades.
Today, the valley is spread across 30,000 hectares of land and is dedicated to coffee cultivation mainly the Arabica variety. It has a height of about 900 to 1,100 meters above sea level. This initiative developed organic and biodynamic farming practices that supported over 12,000 tribal farmers.
Araku coffee has received international appraisal for its unique flavor profile, characterized by notes of chocolate, caramel and quiet fruity acidity. Its excellence was acknowledged when it received the "Best Robusta" award at the Cafe de Colombia Competition.
In 2019, it was also granted a Geographical Indication tag for its unique origin & quality. It is cultivated using organic methods without any chemicals and often under shade grown conditions. This methods preserves the environment and improves the coffee's flavor & quality.
The Araku coffee plantations are located at a distance of around 21.3 KM from Araku bus stand. You can take a local bus or taxi from the bus stand to reach the coffee plantations.
