Sri Biligiri Ranganatha swamy temple is the famous temple of lord Ranganatha also called as Lord Venkateshwara. This temple is situated on the highest peak of the Biligiri Ranganatha hills. This hills is also called as Biligiri Rangana Betta in local kannada language.
This temple is famous for the hill area which provides the best scenery. It is located on a white high rock wall which gives the hill name Biligiri (white hill in kannada language).
Significance:
The temple is locally called as Biligiri Ranga and is represented in a unique standing position. Also, there are idols of Ramanuja and Alwars in the temple. Mahalakshmi temple is next to the Ranganathaswamy temple.
It is a historic temple with over 500 years history and is built completely with granite stone. You have to climb steps to reach the temple.
Festivals:
The Annual car festival of the deity is celebrated here during Vaishakha masam (April month). It is famous in the region and attracts several devotees from other places too. The local tribals present a 1 foot 9 inches pair of slippers made of skin to the deity in the temple for every 2 years.
On top of the hill, there are several picnic spots that are a must-see. This place is also known for a wildlife sanctuary called BRT wildlife sanctuary.
How To Reach:
B R Hills bus stop is located at a distance of around 210 m from the temple. You can reach the temple easily by walk. The nearest bus stand is Nanjangud at a distance of around 64.5 KM. You can take a direct KSRTC bus from the bus stand to reach the BR Hills bus stop which is at a walkable distance to the temple.
