About Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium

Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is a science museum that includes sky theatre, mirror dome, exhibition hall and a science park. It is organized by Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE). It was started in 1989 and is dedicated for Science education. The science education activities include Science Education In Early Development (SEED) for primary grade students, Science Over Weekends (SOW) for high school children, Research Education Advancement Programme(REAP) for undergraduate students along with science exhibitions and workshops. 

It attracts over 3 lakh visitors annually in which most of them are students. It has a large 15 M dome and a state of the art projection system installed in 2017. Monthly star gazing, science club activities, science movies, sky theatre shows everyday, viewing of astronomical events etc are the special attractions here. It aims to promote astronomy education and is named after India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

History

The planetarium was reopened in September 2010, after renovating it with a budget of Rs,11 crores. It was done before the 2010 common wealth games and receieved Queen's Baton. Now it has "Megastar" projector that can show 2 million stars and can sets up old telescopes, projection boxes and solar filters at its premises at major solar eclipses.

How To Reach

It is situated in Bangalore at a distance of around 2 KM from railway station and around 3.5 KM from Bangalore bus stand. It is 1.5 KM from Cantonment railway station and 0.5 KM from Dr B.R Ambedkar station/Cubbon Park station. 

By Bus

You can board the bus from your location and halt at Bangalore bus stand. From Kempegowda bus stand you can take 114 C, 108B, 415 D buses to reach the planetarium.

By Train

You can board the train from your location and halt at Bangalore railway station, From there, you can take a metro train where Dr B.R Ambedkar station is the nearest station to Planetarium.
