Jnanakshi Rajarajeshwari temple is a hindu temple located in Rajarajeswari Nagar, Bangalore. This temple houses Shri Rajarajeswari devi and was constructed in the year 1978 by Sri Sivaratnapuri Swamiji. Goddess Sri Rajarajeshwari is a form of Goddess Sri Lalita Tripurasundari. It is believed as one of the 18 Shaktipeethas where karnabhaga(ear) was fell down as mentioned in the Tantra Chudamani. It was once known as Kanchanagiri situated between the Kaveri and Vrishabhavati rivers. It is believed that it was the home of the sage Atri and his wife Anasuya who got to heaven by worshipping the holy goddess Sri Rajarajeshwari.
Sri Sivaratnapuri Swamiji or Sri Tiruchi Swamigal, developed Sri Kailash Ashramam in Kenchenahalli(Sri Rajarajeswari Nagar). His guru, Sri Sivapuri Baba, indicated him that there was a lot of work to do in South and asked him to travel to South. Before his South travel, he went to Mount Kailas and did meditation. While he is in meditation three goddesses Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati appeared and a voice urged him to travel to Karnataka.
On the Sankranti day 14-01-1960, early morning Sri Tiruchi swami and two of his students were driving to Mysore for a Pada Pooja. Swamiji is about 6 KM away from Bangalore and he noticed three garudas (eagles) which reminded the three goddesses. He followed the route where eagles are making round and he reached a small cottage in the middle of guava trees groove. He chose that location for his Ashrama and places the foundation stone for the temple.
In this temple, Navaratri is celebrated grandly and a huge number of devotees visit this temple at that time. This festival is dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Durga. The temple will be beautifully decorated and special poojas will be held. Also, Brahmothsavam will be held in the temple every year.
