Water Gate is in Srirangapatna and is the area where British prisoners were held, and the is the site of the destroyed palace. This was the weak point in the defence of the fort. The gateway opens to the shallower portion of the river. It is a secret gate to river Kaveri from fetching water by the people of the fort.

Through this gateway Engish troops charged into the fort on 4th May 1799 and killed Tipu Sultan. The residents of the fort used this gate to fetch water for the daily needs.
