About Water Gate

Water Gate is in Srirangapatna and is the area where British prisoners were held, and the is the site of the destroyed palace. This was the weak point in the defence of the fort. The gateway opens to the shallower portion of the river. It is a secret gate to river Kaveri from fetching water by the people of the fort.

History Of Water Gate :

It is a secret gate to enter into the Srirangapatna fort. It is the location of a deadly battle in 1799 in which Tipu Sultan died. Through this gateway Engish troops charged into the fort on 4th May 1799 and killed Tipu Sultan.  The residents of the fort used this gate to fetch water for the daily needs.

How To Reach Water Gate :

Water Gate is situated at a distance of just 1KM from Srirangapatna bus stand and 850 m away from Srirangapatna railway station. 

Reach Water Gate By Train :

Board the train to Srirangapatna from your location. Srirangapatna railway station is the nearest station with a distance of 1.1 KM. After reaching the station, you can easily reach the water gate by walk or by taking auto rickshaw.

Reach Water Gate By Bus :

Board the bus and halt at Srirangapatna bus stand. Take a auto rickshaw to reach water gate.

Reach Water Gate By Car :

From Mysore, Srirangapatna is just 19 KM away and from Bangalore it is  around 126 KM . You can hire a taxi or drive personal car to reach Water gate directly without any halts.
