Parnasala is a village in the Dummugudem mandal in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Parnasala has connection with epic Ramayana. Lord Rama built a heritage in Parnasala during his Vanavasam as per the orders of his father.
Parnasala means Parna means leaves and Sala means house which means it was surrounded by trees. It is said that lord Sri Rama spent some of the 14 years of exile at the location. The locals believe that Sita devi bathed in the stream here and dried her clothes on "Radhagutta" where the imprints can be seen till today.
Significance:
It is said that lord Rama used to offer prayers to lord Shiva at a nearby cave temple called Shivacave. According to the vedas, the forests surrounding Parnasala were considered divine. The village is located on one of the seven holy rivers, Godavari.
It is associated with the Buddhist period and the nearby town of Bhadrachalam is birthplace of Saint Ramadasu of 17th century. In this area, the demon king Ravana parked his Pushpaka and carry off Sita to Lanka.
How To Reach:
Bhadrachalam bus stand is located at a distance of 35.8 KM from the temple. You can take a local bus from Bhadrachalam to Parnasala. There are frequent buses running in the route.
