Gaganachukki falls is one of the two branches of the Shivanasamudra falls which is located in Mandya district of Karnataka. The water falls down a slopy hill from a height of about 295 feet.
Gaganachukki falls flows with intense force and vertical drop which seems like a roaring wall of water. It creates a powerful waterfall that gives an amazing experience especially during monsoon season.
Significance:
Gaganachukki falls also plays a important role in establishment of Asia's first hydroelectric power station which is at Shivanasamudra. It came to use in 1902 and was a milestone in India's engineering history. This was initiated during the Mysore Maharajas ruling period.
The electricity generated from this hydro project was used to power the Kolar Gold Fields. The Kaveri river is the source of these falls and is holy waterfall for devotees of South India. There are ancient temples in proximity to these falls.
Gaganachukki falls can be viewed from viewpoints. The base of these falls is not accessible due to the force of the water.

Malavalli bus stand is 21.5 KM far from the Gaganachukki falls viewpoint. You can reach the viewpoint by taking a bus or a local taxi from the bus stand.
