About Arupadai Veedu Murugan Temple - Thiruvanmiyur

The Arupadai Veedu Murugan temple is located in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. It is a temple dedicated to lord Murugan and is a unique spiritual complex that brings six sacred abodes of Murugan under one roof. The original 6 abodes are in Thiruparankundram, Tiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Tiruttani and Pazhamudircholai.

The construction of this temple was initiated in 1995 and completed in 2002.  This temple was constructed using granite stone in traditional Dravidian architecture style. It is designed to represent the six sacred abodes of Lord Murugan which is called as the Arupadai Veedu.

Significance:

This temple was built with the blessings of Sri Sri Maha Periyavaal of Kanchi Mutt. In Arupadai  Veedu Swamimalai temple is in Northeast, Tiruchendur is at East, Pazhamudircholai & Tirupparankundram are at South, Palani temple at West and Tiruttani is at Northwest sides of this temple. 

At the center of the temple, there is a shrine of Mahavallabha Ganapati. According to Skanda Purana, the asura Surapadman or Sooran(asura) drove the devas out of Swarga and they went for the help from lord Brahma & Vishnu. 

They assigned Kamadeva to disturb Shiva from his meditation and fall in love with Parvati. The couple gave birth to Murugan.  Murugan became the commander of the devas and went on to kill Surapadman(Sooran) in battle, resending Swarga to the devas.

Besant Nagar bus stop is just 900m away from the temple. You can reach the temple by walk easily from the bus stop.
