Kandaswami temple, also known as Kandakottam or Sri Kalikambal Kamateswarar temple is located in George Town area of Chennai. This temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Murugan.
It is notable for its spiritual significance and traditional Dravidian style with beautiful carvings. The main shrine houses lord Murugan idol along with consort idols Valli & Devasena. It also houses idols of Kalikambal( a form of Parvati) and lord Shiva as Kamateswarar.
Significance:
The Kandaswami temple has a rich history dating back several centuries. It was originally located near the seashore but was now relocated to George town during the British ruling period in 18th century.
The original temple was constructed by Maari Chettiar in 1670s. The temple tank is 'Saravana Poigai' and the Sthala Viruksham(tree) is Magizham tree.
The moolavar vigraha Kandha swamiMurugan), which was brought from 'Thiru porur', is about two feet in height. His consorts Devasena or Deivanai and Valli are on both sides of this presiding deity. The utsava murti is known as Mutthu Kumara Swami.

Chennai bus stand is located at a distance of around 11.6 KM from the temple. You can reach the temple from bus stand by taking a local bus or taxi.
