About Siruvapuri Balamurugan Temple

The Bala Murugan temple or Siruvapuri Bala Murugan temple is dedicated to lord Murugan, the son of lord Shiva & goddess Parvati. It is a 500-year old temple located at Siruvapuri, near Chennai. This place is now called Chinnambedu and the deity here is worshiped as Bala Subramanyar swamy.

This temple is known for its beautiful architectural design which include the main inner shrine with a idol of Lord Murugan, a holy tree, and a temple pond. The temple has a sculpture of lord Murugan's vahana, the peacock made from the green stone called Margatham. 

Significance:

A unique feature is the idol of lord Murugan and his consort, Valli, Devasena depicted in holy matrimony (holding goddess Valli hand before marriage) called Valli Manalar or Valli Kalyana Sundarar. The idol stands tall at a height of 4.5 feet. A statue of Tamil saint poet Arunagirinathar is also present, facing the temple sanctum.

It is believed to be where Lava, Kuda once lived and unknowingly fought thier father, Lord Rama. The temple is linked to a devotee named Murugammai and is built during the Chola period.

Siruvapuri bus stop is at a distance of 170 m from the temple. You can reach the temple by walk easily.
