Bylakuppe is a region in Karnataka which is home to several Tibetan settlements established by Lugsum Samdupling (in 1961) and Dickyi Larsoe (in 1969). It is the largest Tibetan settlement in the world outside Tibet.
History:
In 1960, the then Mysore Government allotted around 3000 acres of land at Bylakuppe. It was the first ever Tibetan settlement and came into existence in 1961.
The Governmwnt of India built special schools for Tibetans that provide free education, health care and scholarships for those students who score top marks in school. Also, there are a few medical and civil engineering seats reserved for Tibetans. They stay in India with a stay permit called Registration Certificate(RC). It is renewed every year.
How To Reach:
By Bus
You can reach Bylakuppe by bus from Mysore. From Mysore, it takes 1h 53 m of travel time to reach through Mangalore-Mysore highway.
By Train
There is no station in Bylakuppe and the nearest station is Mysore railway station. So, it is better to choose bus.
By Car
You can hire a taxi from Mysore to reach Bylakuppe. Else, you can drive through your personal car. Also, you can rent a car and drive by your own to reach Bylakuppe.
