Coorg or Kodagu is well known as the Coffee Capital of India. It is filled with lush green coffee plantations, primarily cultivating Arabica & Robusta beans. It offers charming scenary, with thick foresrs and foggy hills in the background.Many estates are owned by family which is been passed to next generations. Several estates welcome tourists and allow them to walk through the plantation, and give some demonstrations on preparing coffee. Walking in the middle of the coffee shrubs, pepper vines offers a refreshing experience along with gaining knowledge.
Coffee was introduced by Saint Baba Budan in 17th century in Coorg. Since then, this place has developed into a major coffee-producing area. It produces the major percentage of India' coffee and contributes heavily to Karnataka's agricultural output.Here the coffee plantations are cultivated under the shade of trees. It includes a variety of flora & fauna and are grown alongside other crops with spices like cardamom and pepper. It gained popularity as visitors come to explore processing units.
Madikeri is at a distance of around 18 KM from Coorg estate. You can hire a local taxi to reach the coffee estate easily.
