The Akshardham temple or Swaminarayan Akshardham is a hindu temple and spiritual cultural campus in Delhi. It is close to the border with Noida and is also referred as Akshardham Delhi. The complex displays thousands of years of traditional and modern Hindu culture, spirituality and architecture. BAPS(Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha) constructed it with the inspiration of Yogiji Maharaj and the creation of Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
It is the world's second largest BAPS Hindu temple, following Akshardham, New Jersey in the United States. The temple was offcially opened on 6 November 2005 by Pramukh Swami Maharaj in the presence of A.P.J Abdul Kalan, Manmohan Singh, L.K Advani and B.L Joshi. The temple, at the centre of the complex, was built according to the Vastu shastra and Pancharatra shastra.
The main attractions of the Swaminarayan Akshardham complex is the Akshardham Mandir which is 141 ft high, 316 ft wide and 356 ft long which is situated on the banks of the Yamuna river. It is finely detailed with flora, fauna, dancers, musicians and deities.
The Akshardham Mandir was designed by BAPS Swamis and Virendra Trivedi, a member of the Sompura family. Materials like Rajasthani pink sandstone and Italian Carrara marble are used in construction of this building.
There are exhibits like Sahajanand Darshan (Hall of Values), Nilkanth Darshan(theatre), Sanskruti Vihar(boat ride) and musical fountain. There are also gardens namely Garden of India, Yogi Hraday Kamal.
There are also some features like Nilkanth Abhishek (abhishekam with these water on the murti of Swaminarayan will be held by devotees), Narayan Sarovar, Premvati Ahargruh and AARSH(Akshardham Centre for Applied Research in Social Harmony) Centre.
Pandav Nagar bus stand is the nearest bus stand at a distance of around 2.5 KM from the temple. You can reach the temple by taking a local auto from the bus stand.
