Masjid-i-Jahan Numa, often called as Jama Masjid is the main mosque of Delhi. It was built by the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Its construction was completed in 1656. The mosque is the largest & most beautiful mosque in India and is located in the busy Chandni Chowk area of Delhi.
The word Masjid-e-Jahan Nua means World View Mosque, Jama Masjid means Universal Mosque was meant for Friday prayers. Its premises can accommodate about 25000 worshippers. It took 5000 workers six years to build the mosque at a cost of ten lakh rupees at that time.
