The Elephant Stables is located in Hampi, Karnataka and is one of the most remarkable and preserved monuments from the Vijayanagara Empire. This structure is an example of architectural brilliance of 15th century. It is a royal shelter for the state's ritual elephants.
This building has 11 large domed chambers arranged in a straight row and each chamber has a tall arched entrance & a fully decorated central dome. The domes are built in Indo-Islamic architecture, featuring elements like lotus-shaped designs.

The Elephant stables represent the importance of elephants in battles, ceremonial parades(ratham) and the royal prestige during the Vijayanagara era. These elephants represent the grandeur, discipline and strength of the Vijayanagara empire.
