The Hazara Rama temple is a famous temple in Hampi. It is small but beautiful place of worship dedicated to lord Rama. This is said to be a private temple of the Vijayanagara kings and is home to beautiful artifacts depicting the epic Ramayana.
It was built by king Devaraya II, the king of Vijayanagara in the early 15th century. This temple contains a garbha griha with idol of lord Rama, a pillared hall and an Ardha mandapa. Also, a lawn is situated on the north side of the temples and two large gateways.
Significance:
This temple is one of the historical temples of Hampi. The stone on the interior walls are carved with story of Ramayana. While the outer walls are decorated with ancient artifacts of Rama and Krishna.
In addition to it, the carvings display the processions(ratham) of horses, elephants, attendants, soldiers and dancing women taking part in the holy parade on Dasara festival in ancient days. The temple is the best example of the beautiful architecture and carvings of Vijayanagara's sculpture.
How To Reach:
Hampi bus stand is located at a distance of around 2.9 KM from the temple. You can reach the temple by taking a local taxi or auto from bus stand.
