The Mahanavami Dibba is the tallest structure in this area and is like an ordinary elevated square stage. The whole structure is made as a large square structure in three layers.
There are two stairways to reach the top where the front one is highly decorated on either sides with carved elephants, horses and other things.
History:
The Vijayanagara Empire was one of the richest and powerful kingdoms in India. Krishnadevaraya (Vijayanagara king) initiated the construction of Mahanavami Dibba to celebrate his victory over the Gajapatis of Odisha.
The platform is believed to have been used mainly during the annual Mahanavami celebrations, which were grand courtly events and religious ceremonies. Foreign visitors like Domingo Paes and Fernao Nunes who visited Hampi in 16th century recorded descriptions of the events took place here.
It is a high stone platform which is 40 feet high square shaped with a vast flat top. From the top of the platform, King can view festivities, military parades and public ceremonies.
How To Reach:
Hampi bus stand is located at a distance of around 3.7 KM from the Mahanavami Dibba. You can take a local bus or taxi to reach the Dibba from the bus stand.
