Shri Idagunji Mahaganapathi Temple

The Shri Idagunji Maha Ganapathi temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to lord Ganesha located in Idagunji. It is one of the religious destinations near Murudeshwara.The temple receives about 1 million devotees annually which represents the popularity of the temple. It is one of the six famous temples of lord Ganesha on the west coast of India. This is why it is popularly called the "Ganesha Coast."

Significance

The Idagunji Ganesha is the Kuladevata of the Havyaka Brahmins. The central icon of this temple is of 4-5th century CE. The idol of Ganesha is in dvibhuja style which means the idol is 33 inches tall & 23 inches wide and has two arms & stands on a stone platform. The right hand of the idol holds a lotus flower and a Modaka(an Indian sweet dish made with rice flour or wheat flour mixed with khowa and filled with grated coconut and jaggery inside) sweet in other hand. The idol is decorated with yagnopavita(holy thread), necklace of small bells and dvidanta (2 teeth). Also, there is a rat vahana of Ganesha alongside Ganesha idol.
