The Kalaseshwara temple is a temple dedicated to lord Shiva, located in Kalasa. It is situated on the banks of the river Bhadra and is surrounded by the greenery of Western Ghats. The temple holds a historical & spiritual importance.
This temple is a fine example of South Indian architecture that includes detailed carvings and a peaceful atmosphere. The name Kalasa is derived from the word Kalasha which is a pot used for pooja or any rituals.
Significance:
According to legends, Kalasa is believed to be one of the Pancha kshetras where a part of the Shivalinga from Kashi is said to have fallen. lt makes the temple spiritually a powerful spot.
Sage Agastya is said to have performed meditation here and the temple is said to be preserved by Hoysala and Vijayanagara rulers.
The temple is also known for the festival of Shivaratri where thousands of devotees gather to offer prayers and stay awake throughout the night chanting and meditating.
