In Kaleshwara temple, two Shivalingas are worshipped in the inner shrine or garbha griha. One of them is Mukteshwara which is lord Shiva and the second one is Kaleshwara which is Yama.

It is said that since lord Mukteshwara(lord Siva) was granting freedom from sins to all the devotees visiting the temple. Yama became useless and prayed to lord and asked him to stand beside him as a form of linga. Lord Shiva then said that if anyone goes without seeing Yama and seeing Mukteshwara they willl not get freedom from the sins and may be taken to hell. This is why devotees visit both linga.

There are two holes in the linga and devotees believe that the water poured into those holes during abhsheka will meet the confluene of Godavari and Pranahita rivers.
