The Hampi archaeological museum is a small but important museum located in Kamalapura. It is a worth visit museum with highly beneficial exhibit to a new visitor. This museum includes a dispaly of overview map with each site's location.
The large one located at the central courtyard is the miniature copy of Hampi along with representation of hills and rivers. While the smaller one gives a small & informative view of the Royal centre, Hampi.
Significance:
The museum has four main sections. The first one displays the Hampi model(overview map). The second one displays sculptures and idols from the Hampi ruins like Veerabhadra, Bhairava, Bhikshatana-murthi, Mahishasuramardhini, Shakti, Kartikeya and Vinayaka.
The third section displays tools, arms, coinages and other objects used during the Vijayanagara ruling period. The fourth one displays antiquities (old objects or antique pieces) like hero stones(dedicated to heroes who died in battle), sati stones(memorial of wives who committed suicide after husbands death in battle), Stucco figurines, portions of fine ceramic pottery from the discovered ruins and a gallery of the photos of the discovered ruins.
How To Reach:
Hampi bus stand is located at a distance of around 4.4 KM from this museum. From the bus stand, you can take a local taxi or auto to reach the museum.
