About Thirumanancheri Temple

Tirumanancheri Udhvaganathar temple is a hindu temple at Tirumanancheri in Mayiladuthurai district of TamilNadu. This temple houses the deity lord Shiva being worshiped as Udhvaganathar along with consort goddess Kokila. It s also called as Sri Kalyanasundareswarar Swamy temple.

The temple is counted as one of the temple built on the banks of river Kaveri. This shrine is one of the 27 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the sacred Shiva temples praised in the early middle ages Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanars Tirugnanasambandar and Tirunavukkarasar.

Significance:

It is believed to be the most worshipped place where lord Shiva married goddess Parvati(as Kokilambal). This is why the place got name Thirumancheri from the word Thirumanam which means marriage. It is especially famous for the deity's blessings of marriage for unmarried people. Devotees believe that offering prayers here helps remove obstacles in marriage and ensures a happy married life.

Special poojas and rituals are performed for those facing delays in marriage. After the ritual, devotees are given a sacred mangalsutra (known as Kalyana mala) and are advised to visit the temple again after marriage with their partner.

How To Reach:

Kuthalam bus stop is the nearest bus stop at a distance of 5.2 KM from the temple. You can take a local taxi or auto to reach the temple from the bus stop.
