The Tirunallar Saniswaran temple also called as Dharbanyeswarar temple is a hindu temple dedicated to the lord Shiva in Thirunallar village of karaikal district of Puducherry or Pondicherry. This temple is spread within 2 acres with a five layered entrance gopuram.
The temple has a number of shrines, including lord Shiva as Dharbaranyeswarar, his consort Praneswari Amman(Parvati), Shani(Saniswararan) and Somaskanda (a combined form of Shiva with Parvati and son Murugan).
As per Hindu legend, the ruler of the region asked sheep caretaker to provide milk to the temple daily. He was a devoted follower of Shiva and gladly offered milk for the ritual bathing of the main deity.
Once, the temple priest informed the king that the temple was not receiving the milk from the shepherd. The king asked the shepherd the reason for it. He remained silent and that made king more anger which in result king ordered to kill the shepherd. Lord Shiva appeared after the shepherd prayers and stopped the punishment with his trishula.
Thirunallar bus stop is located just 290m away from the temple. You can reach the temple from bus stop by walk easily.
