Manikeshwara temple in Lakkundi represents the 12-century Kalyani Chalukya architecture. This temple has a unique Trikuta design which means it has three garbha griha layout. It is one of the characteristics of the region's temple architecture during the Chalukyan period.
This temple complex also includes Manikeshwara Pushkarini a temple tank with steps which is important for rituals or poojas. This stepped tank showcases the importance of water bodies in temple complex.
History:
It was constructed in 12th century using Kalyani Chalukyas architecture who played a key role in developing the Vesara style. Vesara style is a blend of Dravidian and Nagara architectural elements. The Lakkundi town was part of the Belvola-300 region and is center for Shaivism, Jainism & Buddhism.
