Muskinbhavi is a stepped well in Lakkundi near Manikesvara temple. It is also known as Kalyani or Pushkarini which represents the brilliance of Chalukyan engineering and water management.
This step well was built during the Kalyani Chalukya period(10th-12th century CE). Muskinbhavi means "well of pearls" or "well with pearls" which is a poetic attribution to its charm. It has symmetrical steps and a well planned structure which will have water even in dry seasons like summer.
History:
Muskinbhavi reflects the Chalukyas' advanced water flow technology and stone architecture. The water in this stepwell is used during festivals, rituals and daily works.
It is a example of eco friendly planning of early Indian kingdoms that built long-lasting water systems in areas with little rainfall like Lakkundi.
How To Reach:
Lakkundi SH67 is the nearest bus stop to this stepwell which is 250 m away. Else, you can halt at Gadag bus stand which is 11.9 KM far from the well. You can take a local taxi to reach the well.
