Gandhi Memorial museum is a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi developed in 1959 in Madurai. It is one of the five Gandhi museums in the country. It includes a part of the blood stained cloth worn by Gandhi at the time of his assassination by Nathuram Godse.
The museum includes a original letter personally written to Narayanan Satsangi of Devakottai by Gandhiji. It also includes a congratulatory message sent by Gandhiji to freedom fighter & poet Subramania Bharati. A special exhibition on "India Fights for Freedom" with 265 illustrations represents the history of the Freedom Movement.
It also includes the "Visual Biography of Bapuji" containing photos, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, quotations and selected copies of his letters. It also contains 14 original artifacts used by Gandhi.
History:
In 1948, an appeal was made to the Indian citizens nationwide to build memorial for him. This museum was ingaurated by the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 15 April 1959. The memorial museum in Madurai comes under the Peace museums worldwide selected by the United Nations Organization(UNO). The palace of Rani Mangammal was converted into the museum and is near the Madurai collector office.

Madurai bus stand is located at a distance of around 3.3 KM from the museum. You can take a local taxi or auto rickshaw to reach the museum.
