About Malai Mahadeshwara Temple

Male Mahadeshwara temple is located on Male Mahadeshwara hills. It is the place where Mahadeshwara lived, practiced medicine as Sidda, taught ahimsa to people in & around the seven hills. 

The area of the present temple surroundings is 155.57 acres. It is situated in the middle of dense forest with a huge number of devotees visiting the temple. This hill is about 3000 ft high above sea level.

History:

According to legend, Male Mahadeshwara was born in Kali Yuga. Lord Mahadeshwara visited the house of Junje Gowda, devotee of god Beredevara. 

There are sevenpeaks identified in the legend named as Anumale, Jenumale, Kanumale, Kadumale, Pachchemale, Pavalamale, Ponnachimale. These seven peaks together from the Male Mahadeshwara Betta. 

Lord Mahadeshwara established a Mutt here for looking after the religious and cultural affairs of the people of this area.
