About Tannirbhavi Beach

Tannirbhavi beach is in Mangalore and is one of the most popular attractions of Mangalore. Along with the beach, Sultan Battery, Tannirbavi tree park & the proposed Marine museum can be seen here. It can be reached either by road near Kuloor bridge or by ferry through Gurupura river from Sultan Battery(Sultan Bateri watch tower constructed by Tipu Sultan in 1784).

Significance:

Tannirbhavi is one of the popular beaches in Mangalore after Panambur beach. It is also called as Thandrai in Tulu language. On the other side of the land strip of the beach there is a barge mounted 220 MW power plant set up by the GMR Group. 

Tannirbhavi tree park near the beach is spread within a 15 hectares which is 37 acres approx. It is an initiate by karnataka Forest department. This park includes tree species found in the Western Ghats and also the trees/plants are herbal & have medical importance. Also, various sculptures showcasing the culture of the region can be seen here.

Tannirbhavi beach is in the process of being developed as India's 13th Blue Flag beach. The development work is being carried out by Pune based BVG India Limited at a cost of Rs.7.56 crore. 

How To Reach:

Lady Hill bus stop is located at a distance of around 2.8 KM and is easy to reach here. Many local buses run in this route like 1B, 7,13,13A, 13C, 13 D and more. Else you can reach here by taking a local taxi.
