About Sri. Raghavendra Swamy

The Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt or Raghavendra Swamy temple is one of the Dvaita Vedanta monasteries(prayer houses) inherited from Madhvacharya through Sri Jayatirtha further with Vibudhendra Tirtha ( a follower of Ramachandra Tirtha). It is one of the three prime monasteries came from the Jayatirtha the other two being Uttaradi Math and Vyasaraja Math and are jointly referred as Mathatraya.

These ancestories were formed and continued for the benefit of the Madhva philosophy so that more and more individuals as a result have access to the philosophy and get Upadesa(spiritual guidance). First it was known by the name of Kumbhakona Matha, after the times of Vijayendra Tirtha, it came to known as Vijayendra Math. Later, it was known as Nanjanagud Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt.

History:

Raghavendra Math is traced back to Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya through Vibhudendra Tirtha and came to existence in 15th century. The Raghavendra Math was founded in 15th century by Vibhudendra Tirtha in Kumbakonam. 

The Moola Rama is the main deity of this matha. Also, Sri Digvijaya Rama, worshipped by Sri Madhvacharya and Jaya Rama worshiped by Sri Jayateertha are being worshipped at this Mutt. Two Vyasamushtis, Sri Shodasha bahu Narasimha worshipped by Sri Vibudhendra teertha and Santana Gopala Krishna, Vaikuntha Vasudeva, Vitthala and other deities are the main dieities worshipped in the mutt.
