About Shri Mudukuthore Mallikarjuna Swamy temple

The Mudukuthore temple or Sri Mallikarjuna swamy temple is located in Mydukuthore, Mysore district of Karnataka. It is a temple dedicated to lord Shiva and is located on the banks of the Kaveri River. 

This temple is near the confluence or meeting point of three rivers - the Kaveri kabini and Spatika Sarovara. The name Mudukuthore is believed to have been derived from a local Kannada phrase which comes with a meaning of "where the worn-out arrow(Muduku) floated(Thore).

History:

According to traditional belief this place has been worshipped for centuries and is closely associated with the Mahabharata. It is said that Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, worshipped Lord Shiva here during his teertha yatra. 

Lord Arjuna installed a Shiva Linga here and prayed for forgiveness to clear the sins committed during the Kurukshetra war.

This Mallikarjuna temle is one of the Panchalinga kshetras in the region. The other four are in Talakadu, Shivanasamudra, Somnathpur and Tirumakudalu Narasipura. It is believed that visiting all the five temples at a time will relieve all the sins of devotees.

Festivals Celebrated:

Shivaratri festival is grandly celebrated in this temple. Also, every year Rathothsava is held here, where the deity is paraded in a ratham with cultural dances and devotional music.

How To Reach:

Mudukuthore bus stop is just 850 m from the temple and you can reach the temple by walk. You can also take a KSRTC direct bus to Mudukuthore from Mysore bus stand which is 51.9 KM away and takes around 1 hour travel time.
