Krishna Raja Sagara or KRS is a lake and the dam in Mysore. This dam was constructed by Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV maharaj of Mysore. It was constructed in the time of the food shortage even though there is financial crisis in the Karnataka state. The dam got the name after him and there is a garden attached to the dam called Brindavan Gardens.
The region of Mysore once witnesses severe drought and hot summers because the British Government in India had taken out one-fifth population of Mysore. This construction was began in November 1911, and 10,000 workers were employed. A mortar known as surki was used in place of cement. The construction was completed in 1931, arounf 5,000 to 10,000 persons had lost their homes for the project. Later they were provided with agricultural lands.
It is the main source of water for the districts of Mysore. These water is used for irrigation in Mysore & Mandya and is the main source of drinking water.

Mysore railway station is at a distance of 20 KM from this dam. After you reached Mysore railway station, you can take 303, 303A, 303 AN, 303E or 303 N bus to reach the dam.
