Statue of Mahishasura is in Mysore is one of the most popular landmark which is located at the top of the Chamundi Hills. Mahishasura was a demon king in Hindu mythology and is known for his great strength and ego. According to Mythology, he was killed by Goddess Chamundeswari (a form of Durga) after a great battle.
It symbolizes the victory of good over evil and because of this Mysore is named after him. This statue is about 10 feet tall and is painted in bright colors. In this statue he is holding a sword in one hand a cobra in the other hand. The statue is right at the viewpoint of Chamundi Hills.
The statue tells the story of Chamundi Devi bravery who strongly defeated Mahishasura. During the Dasara festival, the story of Mahishasura and Goddess Chamundi is celebrated with grand rituals and parades. It is a reminder of the spiritual and mythological roots of Mysore.

Mysore railway station is located at a distance of around 13 KM from this temple. After reaching the station, take a cab or bus (201, 100, 201 N) to reach Chamundi Hills. From there, it is at a walkable distance to the statue.
