The Buddhavanam project is a temple built in Nandikonda Hill colony which is located in Nalgonda district near Nagarjunasagar. It was built within 247 acres at a budget of around Rs.100 crores.
This is the largest Buddhist temple in Asia which was inaugurated on 14 May 2022. The total project area is 274 acres out of which 247 acrs were covered with temple and the other 90 acres have been built to attract the world.
Significance:
In this project, Buddha Charitavanam, Jatakavanam(Bodhisattva Park), Dhyanavanam, Stupavanam, Mahasthupam, Buddhism Teaching & Education Centre, Hospitality & Wellness centre were included.
There is a Buddhist stupa at a height of 100 feet and a diameter of 200 feet. Around the stupa, thousands of sculptures can be seen. Vijayapuri University that was founded by Acharya Nagarjuna(a famous Buddhist philosopher) developed this project based on the history of Buddhism.
