Purandara Mantapa is a serene stone shelter or veranda located near the Vittala temple in Hampi, near Nimbapura. It is dedicated to Purandara Dasa who is a worshipped saint, composer and poet. He is known as Father of Carnatic Music.
This mantapa is located in the UNESCO World Heritage site which is the popular tourist destination of Karnataka. It is believed that Purandara Dasa composed many of his devotional songs in this place.
Significance:
This place has a great cultural importance as a symbol of Hampi's rich musical and religious history. It is located on the banks of Tungabhadra river which provides a peaceful environment.
It is a spiritual hub for music lovers as Purandara Dasa meditated here and composed Keertanas. He is a important personality in Bhakti movement that was held in 16th century. He composed hundreds of devotional songs in Kannada which are sung even today.
How To Reach:
Hampi bus stand is located at a distance of around 1.8 KM from this mantapa which can be reached by taking a auto rickshaw or a local taxi.
