About Papikondalu National Park

The Papikondalu National Park is a national park located near Rajamahendravaram in the Papikondalu of Alluri Sitharama Raju & Eluru districts of Andhra Pradesh. This park is spread within an area of around 1,012.8 sq. km. It is an important Bird & Biodiversity Area and home to some species in danger of extinction of flora & fauna. 

This wildlife sanctuary was established in 1978 and was developed to a national park in 2008. The plant species of this park includes vegetation species from moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests. Tree species include Pterocarpus marsupium, Terminalia elliptica, Terminalia arjuna and more.

Significance:

There are a huge variety of plant and  animal species in this national park. The animal species include mammals like bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, birds like pale capped pigeon, yellow throated bulbul, Great Thick knee, river tern, Malabar pied hornbill and reptiles like Indian golden gecko & King cobras.

This national park is the best example to the detailed balance between nature and culture. It is home to many kinds of plants and animals making it a important place to protect. According to legends, the area was part of the ancient Kishkinda kingdom from the Ramayana. 

How To Reach:

Chinturu bus stand is located at a distance of around 27.2 KM from the national park. You can take a local bus to Papikondalu from the bus stand.
