About Sri Kakatiya Ramalingeswara(Rudreshwara) Swamy Temple

Ramappa temple is a historical temple built by Kakatiya kings who ruled Orugallu(Warangal). It is located in a village called Palampet in Mulugu district of Telangana. This temple has the other name called Rudreshwara temple. It is a Kakatiya style Hindu temple dedicated to lord Shiva. 

The inscription in the temple says it was constructed in the year 1213 CE by Kakatiya ruler Ganapati Deva. It is located in the proximity of Ramappa Lake. This temple complex contains three temples constructed between 1212 and 1234. It was designed by architect Ramappa after whom the temple is named. 

Significance:

In July 2021, Ramappa temple was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as "Kakatiya Rudreshwara(Ramappa) temple, Telangana. It stands on a star shaped platform of 6 foot high. The hall in front of the sanctum has many carved pillars. 

The main structure is in a reddish sandstone. The brackets (a side support) are carved as mythical animals or female dancers or musicians and are the masterpieces of Kakatiya art.  The roof(garbhalayam) of the temple is built with bricks. 

There are two small Shiva shrines on either side of the main temple. The Nandi idol within faces the shrine of shiva. Many of the smaller structures are in ruins which were being preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. 

How To Reach:

Palampet bus stop is the nearest stop at a distance of around 1.1 KM from the temple. You can take a local auto to reach the temple from the bus stop.
