Dhanushkodi is located at the Southeast corner of Pamban Island or Rameswaram Island. It is once a busy town but now it is a empty town surrounded by Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean and is known as Dhanushkodi beach. It is located near Rameswaram and marks the end point of India's land or road before Sri Lanka. It is a popular tourist destination known for its scenic beauty and spiritual legacy.
Significance:
Dhanushkodi is deeply connected to Ramayana as it is the place where Lord Rama with the help of Hanuman and the Vanara sena built the legendary Ram Setu to cross over to Lanka and saved Sita from Ravana. The name Dhanushkodi means "end of the bow" and it is believed to be the spot where Rama marked the starting point of the bridge with the tip of his bow.
Dhanushkodi was once a flourishing town but in 1964, a cyclone destroyed the entire town and hundreds of people lost their lives. Since then, it has remained empty but its importance was the same.
How To Reach:
Dhanushkodi bus stop is located at a distance of 8 KM from here and you can reach by an auto rickshaw or by a local taxi.
