Ram Sethu is a series of sand dunes (stones or rocks) between the island of Rameshwaram and the island of Mannar in Sri Lanka. The rocks are made up of sand and limestone and they are 30 KM long with depth of up to 1.2 metres in some places in the Indian ocean.
According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama built this bridge with an army of monkeys called Vanara Sainyam. This bridge was built with the trunks of various trees and stones. Thus, the bridge to Lanka was built and Ravana was killed. Devotees believe that Rama himself built this bridge and is called Ram Setu.
Rama Setu is also known as Adam's Bridge and is a natural formation. This bridge built by Rama & Vanara Sainyam was with the help of divine intention. The stones used in the construction are said to have floated on water when lord Rama's name was written on them. It is a miracle and is a symbol of faith & devotion.
The spot from where the construction began is traditionally believed as Dhanushkodi and the bridge extended over the sea for a distance of about 30 KM.
The bridge symbolizes as an engineering marvel, and represents the importance of teamwork and devotion. It shows overcoming obstacles with faith and unity.
Rameswaram-Thangachimadam bus stop is located at a distance of 5.6 KM from the bridge. Rameswaram bus stand is around 11 KM far from the bridge. So, it is better to take public bus from Rameswaram to Dhanushkodi. Tamil Nadu state buses are available and operates multiple round trips daily.
