Jog Falls is a waterfall on the Sharavati river located in Siddapur taluk of Uttara Kannada district. It's view point is in Kargal town of Shimoga district, Karnataka. It is the second highest free fall waterfall in India and depends on rain and season to become a free fall waterfall.
These falls are created by the Sharavati river dropping from a 830 ft height. This waterfalls is linked with the Linganamakki dam across the Sharavati river. The water flowing from the dam adds the beauty to the waterfalls in monsoon.
The hydro-electric project was initiated by the Mysore government in mid-1943. A plan to generate 64,000 horsepower at a cost of Rs.358 lakhs was designed. The power station has been operational since 1948 and is of 120 MW capacity and is one of the largest hydroelectric stations in India at that time. Now it is a small source of electric power to Karnataka.

Mavingundi is the nearest bus stop at a distance of around 5 KM. You can take a local taxi to reach the waterfalls. Else, Jog falls is located just 600m away from the Jog falls bus stop. You can reach the view point by walk easily.
