Sri Kurmanathaswamy temple is located in Srikurmam village. Lord Vishnu is worshipped here in the form of Kurmavataram. This is the only Kurmavataram temple of its kind in India. This temple is unique in its architectural style and the lord is represented facing west. Another special feature of this temple is that there are two flag poles.
The temple inscriptions dates back to the 11th century have been found here. Along with this, there are temples of Sri Ramanujacharya, Sri Varadarajaswamy, Sri Madhvacharya and Kodandaramaswamy.
This temple is believed by many devotees to have been built before the 2nd century. The temple was developed during the Chola & Kalinga dynasties. The importance of the temple is known from the 7th century. Later, various dynasties that ruled this region developed it in different stages.
The pillars known as Gandharva Shilpa Spadapa in the entire structure of the temple speak of the name and fame of these dynasties. On the southern coast of the ocean, the city of Svetapuram was ruled by the king of Sveta. He had a wife named Vishnupriya. She was a great devotee of Vishnu.
Srikurmam bus stop is located at a distance of around 550m from the temple and can be reached by walk easily from the bus stop.
