About Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple

The Sri Ranganathaswamy temple is located in Srirangam, Tiruchirappalli, TamilNadu. It is also known as Thiruvarangam and houses the deity lord Vishnu. The temple is built in the Tamil style of architecture. It is described in the ancient Tamil literature Thiviya Prabandham. This text describes the Azhwars(12 honored Vaishnava saints in TamilNadu) who lived from the 6th to 9 th century. This place is considered one of the 108 Divya Desams, of lord Vishnu. 

Significance

This is one of the oldest temples of lord Vishnu in South India and is located on an island in Cauvery river. It includes a Rajagopuram (entrance) is about 237 feet high with 11 floors. It is also known as Thiruvarangam. The temple is built in the Tamil style of architecture and is described in the ancient Tamil literature Thiviya Prabandham. It has 53 sub shrines and has seven fort walls built with strong, massive protected walls.

How To Reach

Srirangam bus stand is located at a distance of around 2.2 KM from the temple. You can reach the temple by taking a local auto from the bus stand.
