The goddess Bhramaramabika devi temple located in Srisailam is a Shakti Peetham and is situated within the Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga temple as a consort/ wife of lord Shiva. According to the Srisaila Khandam Skanda Purana, she is the divine original form of Goddess Parvati. It is one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peetas where the parts of goddess Sati's body are believed to have fallen.
It is situated in the middle of Nallamala Hills with outer view of the krishna river. It was built in Dravidian style architecture and includes spacious mandapas, carved pillars and tall gopurams. The inner shrine houses the idol of goddess Bhramaraba represented with eight arms and decorated in a silk saree.
Once a demon named Arunasura worshipped in the name of goddess Gayatri and he wished for immortality. Goddess Gayatri devi told him that she could not fulfill such a wish, only lord Brahma could do it. Then Arunasura performed deep meditation to lord Brahma and asked him for immortality. Lord Brahma told that his wish could not be fulfilled and asked him to tell another wish. Then Arunasura asked a wish that he will never face death due to 2 legged or 4 legged creatures.
Goddess Bramarambika created thousands of six legged bees and released them on Arunasura. The demon died due to the attack of the bees. Later, goddess returned to Srisailam in the form of Bhramarambika.
